Painted Comber
Painted Comber (Serranus scriba). Tapered body, slightly compressed, with a
pointed head. Reddish-grey with dark vertical bands and a characteristic bluish
mark on the sides and variegated patterns on the nose and the opercula. Lives on
rocky bottoms and close to posidonia, from 4 to 100 meters deep. Measures up to 35 cm.
The painted comber (Serranus scriba) is a subtropical marine fish, classified in
family Serranidae, the groupers and sea basses. It is found in the eastern
Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Black Sea. Synonyms are Perca
marina and Sebastus marinus
